Cactus Garden

Situated along the banks of the Narmada River, on the opposite side of the Flower of Valley, the Cactus Garden is poised to become one of the country’s largest cactus gardens. Within this expansive garden, cacti from various continents have been carefully brought, planted, and nurtured, showcasing a diverse array of sizes and shapes. Thriving in extreme environments, these cacti are typically found in deserts and the driest regions on Earth. While native to America, spanning from Patagonia in the south to parts of western Canada in the north, some cactus species can also be found in unexpected locations such as Sri Lanka and Africa.A significant number of cacti have been imported from Orissa and Karnataka to enrich the collection. Most cactus species boast needles that serve as the plant’s actual leaves. These spines not only protect the plant from being consumed by animals but also minimize water loss by restricting airflow.Despite lacking true leaves, the stems of these cacti carry out the photosynthesis process. Currently, the largest cactus garden in Chandigarh features 272 species, whereas the Cactus Garden on the banks of the Narmada River boasts an even more impressive collection, surpassing 330 species.
